Today is Thursday, 2nd January 2025 - welcome to the Global Edition of THE #DLG+2 DISPATCH / THE DATELINE GUJARAT DISPATCH.

Today's news-letter has arrey of news from Gujarat with key-events happening in the state, focus on governance, data, decisions, news follow-ups, extortionist approach of China for business cluster in Gujarat and Surpise(!) as washermen and laundries go on Strike!

As I turn the pages of the newspapers in Gujarat, what I read as the front page headlines in most of the publications is, The decision of Gujarat Government to upgrade 9 Civic Body Establishments to Municipal Corporation and splitting Banaskantha into two districts Vav with Tharad as its Headquarter. However, many in the power corridor and political circuit of Gujarat see this decision politically motivated, considering the civic body polls scheduled in Gujarat in year 2025. The decision was taken on the very first day while the New Calendar Year 2025 kicked-off by the Gujarat Government and is seen pivotal one.

Apart from the half or eight column splash of the Gujarat Government’s decision, what I read as headlines from events across the World and Nation on the Front page are the news of Shootout at New Orleans in US and Vehicle Explosion outside Trump Towers, Xi Jinping’s invasive statement on Taiwan, Switzerland bans Burkha (Veil).

On news from national front, Amidst Famers’ Protest – it seems a perfect optics building exercise is in place as Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi met Sikh Community Rockstar, Singer, Celebrity, Folk Artist and Filmstar Diljit Dosanjh, as well Government of India announces fertilizer Subsidy for farmers in India, Mumbai court acquits 8 Pakistani citizens for their proven involvement in narcotics trade,   

While I see and read the developments within the state, the headlines which mainly flashes of 200+ alcoholics arrested by Ahmedabad Police, while Vadodara Police nabbed such alcoholics and registered 115 cases vide drink & drive offence and detained 788 vehicles(!) etc etc …

GIHED CREDAI’s Property Show - Gujarat Institute of Housing and Estate Developers (GIHED), part of Confederation of Real Estate Developers’ Association of India (CREDAI) will be organizing a three days event – property show at Ganesh Ground on SG Highway in Thaltej area of Ahmedabad beginning from 3rd January 2025, Friday and ending on Sunday, 5th January, 2025. This is the 19th version of GIHED Property show, where 50 developers will exhibit and participate in an event displaying 250 plus properties shaping across the state of Gujarat, which includes residential, commercial, industrial properties.

National Photography Festival Edition – II : Navjeevan Trust will be organizing National Photography Festival Edition – II, a four days event beginning from 2nd January 2025, Thursday and ending on Sunday, 5th January 2025. Event will showcase exhibitions; engage into dialogues & talks, film screenings, portfolio reviews, panel discussions, workshops and artist talks, with several national and international level of participants to engage into social and cultural exchange, engagement and activities.

Who advised BZ Group owner to invest into Crypto? - read of how the Chartered Accountant and Social Media Influencer of BZ Group are under investigation radar, where the owner of BZ Group Bhupendrasinh Zala, after being arrested by the State’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for allegedly operating a Ponzi Scheme to lure the investors has revealed the names of the investors in BZ Group, which includes several celebrities, cricketers etc. Media reports also read of Zala’s Chartered Accountant  having advised him to invest into Crypto Currency.

What happened in AM/NS Accident? - Follow-up news on AM/NS (Arcelor Mittal / Nippon Steel) Hazira Site in Surat District of Gujarat State, is that the company authorities have been ordered to further shut-down the plant, on failing to adhere to the safety standards and State Government authorities and officials have ordered a detailed investigations into the matter and concerned officials have been asked to file a detailed report in 48 hours. DNA (Deoxyribonucleic Acid) samples of the deceased have also been collected from the site after 17 hours of the accident, family members of the deceased are heavily disappointed.

Contrabands Smuggled in Gujarat - On the very first day of new calendar year 2025 airport authorities seized Gold valued at 2.6 million (~25.51 lakh) rupees which was smuggled hidden in Pen, watch and charger by a passenger flying through Indigo flight from Abu Dabhi. Whereas in another similar development, on being suspicious about a particular snacks parcel Shipped from Thailand for Morbi (in Gujarat), the officials at Foreign Post Office in Shahibaug Area of Ahmedabad, scanned the parcel in a very detailed manner and unearthed Cannabis (Ganja) packed in plastic polythene packs packaged in snack packets.

Metered Autos in Ahmedabad : All the auto-rickshaws running on the roads of Ahmedabad will have not to run with digital meters installed with effect from 1st January 2025, Wednesday, was the notification issued by Ahmedabad Police and drive to detect such unmetered auto-rickshaws has already started in Ahmedabad by Ahmedabad Traffic Police.

Gujarat Government to change rules for employment - Gujarat Government is changing the rules for employment after 17 years, for recruitment of clerks across 5,100 schools in the State, where initially HSC pass was a qualification to qualify for the position which has now been upgraded to Graduate as minimum qualification to apply for position of Clerk in schools of Gujarat. Since year 2007, recruitment of clerks across 5,100 schools was not undertaken and the schools were functioning without the administrative support where at least 1 clerk per 300 students is a must and mandatory as per the government rules and education department guidelines.

Washer man (Dhobi)-Laundry Association on Strike – Washer man (Dhobi) and Laundry Association in Surat in Gujarat surprised the residents, with the five (5) days strike announced on the beginning of the New Year, which was definitely not good news for Surati-lalas. Dump of clothes have been observed at several homes in Surat with the five (5) days strike, where shutters of Laundries across the city were shutdown with effect from December 30th 2024, Monday. Association sources cited of decision to go on strike to oppose inflation, as the workers in the laundry are demanding higher wages to fight inflation; even the laundry owners are grappling with financial crisis to operate business on daily basis, due to hiked electricity cost and high power bills!

Ahmedabad went out of Grapes of Luck – Media report reads of Ahmedabad having run out of Grapes of Luck, a trend which is picking up as part of celebration on occasion of new year eve to attract luck, where it is followed according to Spanish Tradition of eating 12 grapes under the Table on New Year Eve, to bring luck and prosperity in the new year. This phenomenon has caught and as Ahmedabad Mirror reported the City by 11pm on Tuesday was out of the Grapes stock! According to the report Fruit Vendors had cashed in on the trend and had almost sold their entire grapevine stock by 11pm on Tuesday, as the grapes were reported out of stock online and offline, from fruit vendor carts, shops, delivery apps etc.

GST Collections see upsurge in Gujarat - Goods and Services Tax (GST) collection in the state of Gujarat has reported 19(%) percent upsurge in the third quarter as ended on 31st December 2024 for fiscal 2023-24. Data indicates of State having collected 184.5 billion (~18,448 crore) rupees towards GST which is 19(%) percent higher as compared to year-on-year data in the same quarter during last fiscal pegged at 155.2 billion (~15,520 crore) rupees. Apart from GST the Gujarat Government collected 82 billion (~8,197 crore) rupees towards Value Added Tax (VAT), 29.12 billion (~2,912 crore) rupees towards electricity duty and 640 million (~64 crore) rupees towards professional taxes during the same period, which pegs State’s Tax revenue at 296.2 billion (~29,617 crore) rupees.

Online Complaint Process to be implemented soon in Gujarat – The Home Ministry in the State of Gujarat has made all the provisions to file or register all types of complaints online, till date only vehicle and mobile theft complaints were filed online, but with the new system in place, it will be possible to file all types of complaints online. The person who files online complaint will have to go to the police station after 3 days of filing of his complaint to sign the papers and attest is by self. The system is such where the complaint shall in the radar of The Chief Minister, The Home Minister and the Director General of Police in Gujarat State. This system has been initiated vide the Section 173 of the new law code addressed as Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS).

China’s Diamonds Are Forever Game – With warzones in Eurasian sub-continent and sanctions on Russia, import of rough stones being sabotaged completed, it is now Advantage China(!) equally as the demand for natural stones is also on decline with lab-grown diamonds in vogue, China taking advantage of situation has hiked the prices by 13(%) percent for rough-cuts used for lab grown diamonds and same price structure has also been implemented immediately effective from 1st January 2025, India is one of the largest market in the world consuming rough-cuts used for lab-grown diamonds.

As i scan the digital media space in Gujarati language, across the social and digital news media platforms, what I see as the most trending news across these platforms is the Signature show of Journalist Devanshi Joshi on her platform JAMAWAT - Analysis with Devanshi Joshi, where Devanshi has spoken about Banaskantha District split into two and gone heavy on Amreli Episode where a typist girl was publicly paraded for typing a "politically sensitive letter", based on the instructions from her employer and the civil society is now questioning the motive of police, for publicly pareding an innocent girl, as a part of reconstruction of crime-scene. The same video has almost garnered 49,000+ views in last 24 hours!


On Navjeevan News as well the same news video capsule of Amreli has already garnered 50,000+ views, where Crime and Investigative Journalist Prashant Dayal curated digital platform is questioning the parading of the girl in public, the same news-video is anchored and narrated by Navjeevan News fellow-journlist Tushar Bashiya.  


On Nirbhay News by Gopi Ghanghar, similar news-capsule of interaction of Founder and Editor Gopi Maniar Ghanghar with Patidar Community's eminent face Dhanji Patel has garnered 68,000+ views where Dhanji Patel is in support of the Girl and is criticising the act of parading an innocent girl who further questioning the very core of the issue that, Whether Law & Order situation is going to chage by pareding innocent civilians?

As the clouds of uncertainity across the world continue to hoover across the spectrums with active warzones in Middle East and Eurasian Sub-continent, there seems to be no sign of relief in the equity and money markets, as Rupee momentum continues to slide against the US Dollar and opens 6 paise weaker! Despite the new calendar year 2025 brings hopes for continued growth momentum amdist despair of clouds of uncertainity, markets worldwide also continue to adhere to the sentiment, with news of  early symptoms and signs of New Epidemic in China(!) fack-checking videos show over-crowded hospitals! 

Asian Shares largely rallied on the cues from global markets, but were mostly lower on Weak China Data and outlook of US-China relationship, with Trump docking as US President and threatening sanctions. However, Indian Indices scaled-up in such situation with NIFTY and SENSEX opening in Green Zone and scaling in Green Zone as the day progressed, largely on set of auto-data and surge in financials of key marker companies on Indian Indices, #TaMo (Tata Motors), #MaSu (Maruti Suzuki), #RePo (Reliance Power), #SouIndBnk (South Indian Bank), #MazDo (Mazagon Dock) and NMDC were few stocks in news and focus, as the trading kicked-off on the floors of Indian Bourses!
