(GLOBAL EDITION)

as on
24th  JANUARY, 2025 / FRIDAY

Hello Readers and Viewers,

Interestingly, whenever I sit down to write dispatch, it is morning hours in the USA and US Prez Donald Trump centric news developments starts popping one after another on my machine, so I’m left with no option but to read, understand and write the global developments in same context, Today is FRIDAY, 24th JANUARY 2025, and here we go with our THE #DLG+2 DISPATCH / THE DATELINE GUJARAT DISPATCH.

As I started writing the dispatch for Friday, it was US Prez Donald Trump delivering virtual address at World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos and so one after another news-flashes started popping-up as liners from his speech, of which I think the two are very important, as Trump threatens business leaders with tariffs and demands lower oil prices from Oil Producing Exporting Countries (OPEC) and demands lower interest from Central Banks across the world, probably understanding and gauging the Trump Temperament, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman (MBS) said of Kingdom intending to invest $600 billion (~60,000 crores) in US(!), however the comments from Crown Prince MBS were reported early on Thursday by the State-Run Saudi Press Agency, which came in after a phone-call interaction of MBS with Trump.

While in some interesting developments from European Continent, especially from the Russia-Ukraine warzone and allied Moscow-US Relations, media reports read of Putin Abruptly left on-air meeting of a supervisory board of the Agency for Strategic Initiatives, to take an International Call, which has raised several speculations whether the call was from US Prez Donald Trump or some other important call.

However, Trump has said that, It is Putin’s fault Ukraine war isn’t over and US Prez has also said of he will be asking NATO allies to raise defence spending to 5 per cent of their GDP, reports THE POLITICO.

THE MIAMI HERALD following above developments equally reports, Comments of US Prez over Putin has outraged Russian Propagandists, as they expressed their outrage about his recent statements regarding Moscow-US Relations, where Ekaterina Mizulina, the head of the Safe Internet League; Alexander Sladkov, a military correspondent; and Alexander Kots, a journalist and propagandist, all spoke out after Trump threatened Russia with sanctions and tariffs if they do not end the war in Ukraine, according to posts on Telegram and the outlet Pravda.

In inputs from Europe, as the zone is battling weather and wars, with THE WASHINGTON TIMES reporting Hurricane-force winds anticipated in Ireland and UK, as Storm Eowyn spirals in from Atlantic, It is the ‘Nazi Salute Row’ - Heil Tesla billboard projected onto the Gigafactory of the Elon Musk-led EV (Electric Vehicle) maker Tesla at Berlin-Brandenburg in Germany, amid an ongoing controversy over a hand-gesture made by billionaire on Monday’s swearing ceremony of US President Donald Trump, reports THE HINDUSTAN TIMES, while an analytical piece in THE FOREIGN POLICY is worth a read, which forecasts Trans-Atlantic Tensions are sure to rise and Europe is already prepared to respond, in a piece titled, “Europe’s 3 Futures Under Trump”.

THE GUJARAT DIARY

As I glance through the online and offline media platforms in Gujarat, it seems that recent forecast of Nation’s economy to end-up in range of 6 per cent to 6.5 per cent for fiscal 2024-25 has probably not shaken the confidence in Gujarat, as reports read of Gujarat’s Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) having soared 86 per cent of FDI inflows since year 2000(!)

While, the Gujarat state is leaping in Information Technology according to the news-report of THE HINDU BusinessLine with Gujarat positioning itself as IT Hub, with nearly 70 billion(~7,000 crore) rupees investment in “Million Minds” Tech City  as well aligning with mission of Viksit Bharat, IAS Mona Khandhar, Principal Secretary, Department of Science and Technology (Gujarat Government) said of, “Gujarat aims to contribute 10 per cent to India’s GDP,” - Khandhar was addressing the audience at Bengaluru (Karnataka) roadshow for Gujarat IT/ITES Policy 2022-27, on Thursday and that, “Gujarat was leading in logistics and manufacturing sector,” Khandhar said. While, in an event at Mumbai, Gujarat Government Minister Mukesh Patel, Minister of State for forest and environment, climate change, water resources and water supply urged Chemical Manufacturers to lead India’s rise as Global Chemical Manufacturing Hub, reports THE ECONOMIC TIMES.

However, the confidence to contribute 10% in Nation’s economy may also be catalysed with the stock market participation of the state, as THE ECONOMIC TIMES reports of “Investor Boom : Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh and Gujarat lead as the stock markets reach the rural India,” while THE TIMES OF INDIA reports of “NSE crossed 110 million (~11 crore) investors, with Gujarat ranking at third position,” which (probably) might have attracted HSBC to kick-off operations at GIFT City (Gujarat), where it remains the only international bank in GIFT City premises to offer full range of products and services, including wholesale banking and wealth management!

Probably, aviation sector across the world does not wish to take the chance of having missed the growth boom of the state and so, Dubai Emirates announces A350 India Debut, from January 26th 2025 – Sunday and will fly to Ahmedabad, confirming Mumbai and Ahmedabad routes, The Emirates A350 launch follows operations to Edinburgh, Kuwait and Bahrain, reports ArabianBusiness.

In a hottest updates on the Coldplay Concert at Ahmedabad, the Coldplay Team has left for Ahmedabad (Gujarat), after having successfully completed the Mumbai Concert, for their second leg of the Music of the Spheres Tour. While Extra Trains from Mumbai to Ahmedabad with heavy numbers of wait-listed passengers, High Security details and buzzing hotel business in the city (Ahmedabad) due to heavy traffic to attend Coldplay Concert at Ahmedabad on 25th and 26th January 2025, are few headlines garnering solid views on internet.

Some juxtaposing – mix of an encouraging and disturbing news comes from the corporate space in Gujarat, on one hand, Emcure Pharma inaugurates its ‘biggest’ R&D (Research & Development) Centre in Gujarat, while on the flip side, Adani Group seeks partial de-notification of its multi-product SEZ (Special Economic Zone) in Gujarat, where the Government of India will take up the matter today ie on 24th January, 2025 – Friday, in the meeting of the Board of Approval, the highest decision-making body for SEZs, headed by Commerce Secretary Sunil Barthwal, the proposal is scheduled and on agenda to be discussed in the meeting to be held at New Delhi, the Press Trust of India (PTI) Report as reported by THE HINDU BusinessLine reads.

Reports surface of Thermal Coal port inventories having declined 2.3 per cent on a week-on-week basis, but in that scenario some breather for Adani Energy Solutions Ltd, as CERC (Central Electricity Regulatory Commission) adopts tariff for Navinal Transmission. (CERC) adopted the transmission charges associated with the ISTS-TBCB scheme being developed by Navinal Transmission Ltd, a subsidiary of Adani Energy Solutions Ltd (AESL). In a recent order, CERC approved and adopted the single annual transmission charge of Rs.2,987.14 million that was discovered through the competitive bidding process. The ISTS-TBCB project housed under “Navinal Transmission Ltd” is termed as “Network expansion scheme in Navinal (Mundra) area of Gujarat for drawl of power in the area” and is expected to commission by July 2026. With an estimated cost of Rs.1,853 crore, the project seeks to develop, among other elements, a 4×1,500MVA, 765/400kV GIS substation at Navinal (near Mundra) in Gujarat. Adani Energy Solutions Ltd (AESL) won the project getting the better of two other contenders – Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (PGCIL) and Sterlite Power.

Equally the news of Adani Energy Solutions Ltd’s UAFR (Unaudited Financial Results) for third quarter (October-December) of fiscal 2024-25 was quite encouraging, as the Company reported PAT (profit after taxes) up 73 per cent on a year-on-year basis at 5.62 billion (~562 crore) rupees, with margin having expanded by 300 basis points.

In some action from Sporting arena, in series of ongoing Ranji Trophy matches for year 2024-25, Siddharth Desai takes nine wickets against Uttarakhand, records best figures for Gujarat and Internet has gone wild with #RanjiTrophy trending in Sports section of X with 17.3k posts, especially to know, Who is Siddharth Desai? Gujarat Team’s spinner who hit nine wickets on the opening day of Ranji Trophy or Gujarat’s spin sensation who took 9 wickets of Uttrakhand team, on the very first day of Ranji Trophy.

In some developments from legal and law-enforcement, The Gujarat High Court dismissed petitions challenging amendments to Gujarat Education Act, the amendment Act which gave the state education board powers to lay down qualifications and method of selection for recruiting teaching and non-teaching staff to private secondary and higher secondary schools. Whereas the DCB (Detection Crime Branch) of Ahmedabad Police has interrogated 10 persons in 40.9 million (~4.09 crore) Gujarat Unviersity Fraud case, where allegedly misappropriation of public funds and fraud has been reported at Gujarat University.

While in a very important administrative decision, Gujarat Government has shifted criminal prosecution affairs from legal department to home department(!), reports THE TIMES OF INDIA

From the Wild Wild World, as the Indian Elephants on Epic Journey to Tycoon’s Giant Zoo, vide a Jumbo operation of moving 20 elephants across the breadth of India to a mammoth private zoo setup by the son of the Asia’s Richest Man, adjoining a sprawling refinery, is making headlines, as reported by Agence France Press (AFP) and re-written by BARRON’s, State of Haryana eyes Jamnagar’s Vantara model for Aravalli Safari Project and report also surface of New visitors to Kanpur Zoo have arrived from Jamnagar’s Vantara include Zebras, Wallabies, Macaws while Vantara shall receive Rhinoceros from Kanpur Zoo, amidst which Mumbai’s Ranibaug Zoo’s Quest for Asiatic Lions compels zoo authorities to request Asiatic Lions from Gujarat’s forest department to fill a long-vacant space since 2014(!). In an interesting development, it is not only wild animals who are lost while on a prawl or move, but it is even humans, as On way to release leopard in the wild, Gujarat officials end-up in Maharashtra, The Leopard was released in the Mokhadi forest area on Sunday.
