Hello Readers and Viewers,
Today
is Wednesday, 22nd January 2025, and here we go with our THE
#DLG+2 DISPATCH / THE DATELINE GUJARAT DISPATCH.
As I scan the online and offline
news platforms in Gujarat, news
of civic body polls rules the headlines and Gujarat has already jumped
into local poll season with Junagadh
Municipal Corporation and 66 municipalities to vote on February 16.
Gujarat Government equally gears for the State budget session from February 19; 27 sittings likely over 26 days, The secretariat of Gujarat Assembly issued a notification in this regard after Governor Acharya Devvrat summoned the Assembly session.
Alongwith Local civic body polls,
Olympic fever is also gripping the state, as state
gears to host 1st Olympic Research Conference, to debate on
economics of hosting Olympics in India, while on the flip side, Gujarat Chief
Minister Bhupendra Patel inaugurates
Oxygen park in Ahmedabad.
Amidst all the juxtaposing
developments from Olympics to Oxygen park, in a shocking incident, deaths due
to asphyxiation are yet reported from the progressive and (already) developed
state of Gujarat, as Two
workers died allegedly of asphyxiation after they were trapped in an
underground sewage pumping station they had entered to clean in Patdi town of
Gujarat's Surendranagar district on Tuesday.
As
reports surface of Gujarat

Devbhoomi Dwarka District, where the structures are believed to have come up in
the last five to ten years on the prohibited islands, which can be accessed
only with due permission from the district or forest department.

out with remote sensing data and geospatial analyses.
It seems
things are not legally well with the Gujarat Government, Bureaucrats and
journalists in the State, because Gujarat Government has been slammed with two
notices each from Supreme Court and Gujarat High Court, in a provocative song
case, where Gujarat
High Court had refused to quash First Information Report (FIR) against
Congress MP Imran Pratapgarhi over his poem which he had posted on social media
platform on X following a community marriage event at Jamnagar, it is now The Supreme
Court which has issued notice to Gujarat Government, stays proceedings
against Congress Member of Parliament Imran Pratapgarhi.
While in
another development Gujarat
High Court issues notice to Gujarat government on plea over quota in
promotions for persons with disabilities Justice Aniruddha P Mayee issued the
notice to the respondent, the state government, and directed it to file an
affidavit-in-reply before the next date of hearing.
In a 2004
corruption case, Former
Gujarat IAS officer Pradeep Sharma convicted, sentenced to 5 years in
jail. This is the first major case in which the former IAS officer, who was at
loggerheads with the Gujarat government during Narendra Modi's tenure as Chief
Minister of the state, has been convicted and sentenced. He is facing nearly a
dozen FIRs, all related to corruption.
While in other developments, Justice
Sandeep N Bhatt of the Gujarat High Court on Tuesday (January 21) recused
from hearing a plea by journalist Mahesh Langa seeking quashing of an
FIR registered against him for alleged corruption, criminal conspiracy and
theft where he is accused of obtaining "highly confidential government
documents". When the matter was taken up for the hearing, Justice
Bhatt orally said, “Not before me.”
