A Big Hello and A Very Good Moring to Readers and Viewers,

Today is WEDNESDAY, 25th JUNE 2025, and here we go with our THE #DLG+2 DISPATCH / THE DATELINE GUJARAT DISPATCH, - THE BUSINESS BUZZ ...

I continue to camp on the last mile of West Coast in India in the State of Gujarat at DWARKA, while the news about CEASEFIRE of ISRAEL-IRAN is making headlines, today i had an opportunity to travel across the rural spots surrounding Dwarka, where the news of Israel-Iran had quite a lot of concern among villagers, especially they were worried for the fuel triggered price-rise, despite the fact that their livlihood based on agriculture is in danger and is on verge of (going) extinct, due to their farmlands tuned marshy with saline deposits and drinking water becoming a rare of the rarest commodity among those villagers.

Sincere apologies for not bringing out THE #DLG+2 DISPATCH on Tuesday, as i'm camping at DWARKA (on the west coast of India and the last mile destination on Gujarat Coast) where there was some internet triggered glitch to access the website and submit the report, well in time and so we decided to cancel the publication of THE #DLG+2 DISPATCH on Tuesday - 24th June, 2025.

Meanwhile, lets take a look at what is buzzing across the World, Nation and State.

The Sensex rose 158 points to 82,055, while the Nifty climbed 72 points to 25,044, led by banking stocks, with Nifty Bank surging 402 points to 56,461. However, intra-day swings were sharp, with the Sensex dropping over 1,100 points from its peak after Israel accused Iran of ceasefire violations, stoking geopolitical fears.
In commodity markets, oil prices tanked 8.85% to $67.48/barrel on hopes of an Israel-Iran ceasefire, boosting oil marketing companies. BPCL (+3.16%), HPCL (+3.83%), and IOC (+2.86%) rallied as margins improved. Currency markets saw the rupee weaken sharply against the dollar, reflecting global risk aversion, as reported by CNBC-TV18. Bond markets remained cautious, with yields steady but sensitive to FII flows and global cues, per SAMCO Securities.
Fund markets showed mixed trends, with large-cap funds in IT and banking gaining traction, while mid- and small-cap funds faced profit booking, aligning with CNBC-TV18’s market analysis. Money markets stayed liquid, but volatility loomed due to geopolitical risks, as noted by Fortune India.
Hyperlocal updates highlighted investor caution. In Mumbai, traders at Dalal Street adopted a wait-and-watch approach amid Middle East unrest, per local reports. Delhi’s financial hubs saw increased activity in banking stocks, while Bengaluru’s IT-focused funds attracted steady inflows, reflecting sector resilience.

Commentary: The markets’ resilience amid global headwinds is commendable, but the Iran-Israel conflict keeps investors on edge. Banking stocks are a safe bet for now, but oil price swings and rupee volatility warrant caution. Stick to large-caps and monitor geopolitical developments closely.

THE GLOBAL WRAP-UP

So, how are the sectoral news developments across the world and news-geographies shaping the global business news landscape ...

News-Commentary: A World in Flux – Ceasefires, Weddings, and Global Power Plays
The global stage is witnessing a whirlwind of developments, from fragile ceasefires to high-profile weddings and geopolitical muscle-flexing. Here’s a rundown of the latest events shaping the world, with a pinch of Indian perspective on their implications.
Israel-Iran Ceasefire: A Shaky Truce Amid Trump’s Outburst
A delicate ceasefire between Israel and Iran appears to be holding, despite initial hiccups that drew sharp words from US President Donald Trump. Reports from Bowen Island Undercurrent (https://www.bowenislandundercurrent.com) and Burnaby Now (https://www.burnabynow.com) highlight Trump’s frustration with both nations for violating the truce hours after it was announced. In a fiery rant, Trump reportedly dropped an “F-bomb” while slamming Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, as noted by Ynet News (https://www.ynetnews.com). He warned Israel, “Do not drop those bombs,” urging restraint to preserve the ceasefire (Anadolu Agency, https://www.aa.com.tr). Meanwhile, Netanyahu declared a “historic victory,” claiming Israel’s strikes crippled Iran’s nuclear ambitions (New Zealand Herald, https://www.nzherald.co.nz). On the Iranian side, Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi expressed willingness to resume nuclear talks, signaling a potential thaw (New Zealand Herald, https://www.nzherald.co.nz). However, the ceasefire’s fragility is underscored by continued violence in Gaza, where Israeli strikes killed at least 44 aid seekers, pushing the war’s death toll past 56,000 (The Telegraph, Calcutta, https://www.telegraphindia.com). For India, this Middle East volatility could spike oil prices, impacting our economy, which relies heavily on imported crude. A stable ceasefire is crucial, but the region’s history suggests peace is often a mirage.
Trump’s NATO Gambit: Article 5 in Question
Across the Atlantic, Trump’s refusal to commit to NATO’s Article 5 mutual defense clause has raised eyebrows. LBC News (https://www.lbc.co.uk) reports that Trump is pressuring allies to ramp up defense spending, a stance praised by NATO chief Jens Stoltenberg for making Europe “pay in a big way” (PBS Online, https://www.pbs.org). This comes ahead of a historic NATO summit in The Hague, where Trump’s unpredictability will likely dominate discussions. For India, a key non-NATO partner, this shift could mean increased pressure to align with Western defense priorities, especially as we navigate our own strategic partnerships with Russia and China. Trump’s “America First” approach might also embolden India to push for greater autonomy in global alliances.
Bezos’ Venice Wedding Woes
On a lighter but no less dramatic note, billionaire Jeff Bezos has been forced to relocate his high-profile wedding to Lauren Sanchez from Venice due to protests threatening to flood the city’s canals with inflatable crocodiles (LBC News, https://www.lbc.co.uk). The New Daily (https://thenewdaily.com.au) reports a change of plans for the lavish event, which was set to host 200 guests. While this may seem like elite drama, it reflects growing public resentment against ostentatious displays of wealth, a sentiment that resonates in India, where economic inequality remains a hot-button issue. Bezos’ wedding saga is a reminder that even billionaires aren’t immune to public backlash.
Tragedy in Indonesia, Deportation Rulings, and More
In Indonesia, a Brazilian tourist was found dead after falling at a volcano, a grim reminder of the risks adventure tourism poses (New Zealand Herald, https://www.nzherald.co.nz). India, with its own booming tourism sector, must prioritize safety at natural attractions like the Himalayas to avoid similar tragedies. Meanwhile, in the US, the Trump administration is clashing with a judge over a Supreme Court ruling allowing expedited deportations (India Today, https://www.indiatoday.in). This could affect Indian immigrants, many of whom face uncertain futures in the US amid tightening policies.
Elsewhere, Iran’s Quds Force commander resurfaced after assassination rumours (Anadolu Agency, https://www.aa.com.tr), and Hassan Khomeini is emerging as a frontrunner to succeed Iran’s Supreme Leader (The Dong-a Ilbo, https://www.donga.com). In Europe, the EU is funding energy and water projects in two Bosnian towns with €5.8 million (DTT-NET, https://www.dtt-net.com), while a Russian warship sneaked through the English Channel under a masked identity (Kyiv Post, https://www.kyivpost.com). These developments signal ongoing global tensions, with India needing to tread carefully in its diplomatic engagements.
Diddy’s Trial and Conspiracy Theories
In the US, Sean “Diddy” Combs’ trial wrapped up its defense in just 20 minutes, with the rapper praising the judge and opting not to testify (BBC, https://www.bbc.com; Sky News, https://news.sky.com). The brevity of the defense has sparked speculation, but it’s too early to draw conclusions. On a more controversial note, US Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene linked the JFK assassination to Israel’s nuclear program, a claim raising eyebrows for its conspiratorial tone (The Independent, https://www.independent.co.uk). Such rhetoric, while fringe, underscores the polarized political climate in the US, which India watches closely given our strategic ties.
Trump’s Power Play: The Most Powerful President?
Finally, The Independent (https://www.independent.co.uk) asks if Trump has become the most powerful US president in modern history, citing his bold moves in foreign policy and domestic rulings like the deportation decision. His ability to broker the Israel-Iran ceasefire, however shaky, and his influence over NATO discussions cement his larger-than-life presence. For India, a strong Trump presidency could mean opportunities for deeper bilateral ties but also challenges in navigating his unpredictable style.
The Big Picture
From the Middle East to Venice’s canals, the world is grappling with conflict, extravagance, and power shifts. India, as an emerging global player, must balance economic interests, diplomatic neutrality, and domestic priorities like tourism safety and immigrant welfare. The ceasefire in the Middle East, if it holds, could stabilize oil markets, but Gaza’s plight demands urgent global attention. Meanwhile, Trump’s brash leadership and Bezos’ wedding woes remind us that the personal and political are never far apart. THE INDIA WRAP-UP

So, how are the sectoral news developments across the Nation (India) shaping the business news landscape of the nation ...

News-Commentary: A Week of Stirring Developments in India
As India navigates a dynamic week, from political slugfests to aviation tragedies and international strides, the news cycle reflects a nation grappling with its complexities while forging ahead. Here’s a rundown of the latest headlines, stitched together with some commentary on what they mean for India’s present and future.
Political Fireworks on Emergency Eve
Union Home Minister Amit Shah didn’t hold back as he took aim at Congress allies on the eve of the Emergency’s anniversary, reminding everyone of the dark days of 1975. Speaking with his characteristic sharpness, Shah accused the Opposition of undermining democratic values, a jab that’s as much about history as it is about today’s political chessboard. The Asian Age reported this as a calculated move to keep the Congress on the backfoot, especially with elections looming in key states. It’s classic Shah—using history as a weapon to shape narratives. But the question remains: will this rhetoric rally the BJP’s base or just deepen the political divide? With Congress allies scrambling to respond, the battle lines for 2025 are already drawn.
Cricket Keeps the Nation Glued
On the sporting front, the first Test between England and India offered plenty to chew on. France 24 highlighted three key takeaways: India’s batting resilience, England’s bowling struggles, and the emergence of young talent. Shubman Gill’s gritty knock and Jasprit Bumrah’s fiery spells were the talk of the town, but the match also exposed gaps in India’s middle order. Cricket, as always, is more than a game here—it’s a mirror to the nation’s mood. A win feels like a collective triumph, but the pressure to dominate England in their backyard is immense. Can India sustain the momentum? Fans are already counting down to the next Test.
Air India Crash: Questions Linger
The tragic crash of Air India flight AI171 in Ahmedabad continues to haunt the nation. AviationSource reports that the black boxes are still in India, with authorities weighing whether to send them abroad for analysis. The crash, which claimed 241 lives, has put the spotlight on aviation safety. ThePrint revealed DGCA findings of recurring aircraft defects and faded runway lines at key airports, raising uncomfortable questions about systemic lapses. Home Minister Amit Shah’s remarks on the crash underscored the difficulty in identifying victims due to the fire’s intensity CNN. With the sole survivor, Vishwash Kumar Ramesh, mourning his brother, the nation grieves but demands answers. Was it mechanical failure, human error, or something else? The investigation’s outcome will be critical for restoring public trust.
Governance and Accountability
Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla made headlines with a call for prudent use of public funds, as reported by The Times of India. It’s a timely reminder in a country where wasteful expenditure often sparks public outrage. Meanwhile, a leaky roof at Vidyasagar Bhavan left students drenched, with staff casually advising to “adjust kariye” The Times of India. The incident, though small, reflects a deeper malaise in infrastructure maintenance. If public funds are to be used wisely, fixing such basics should be non-negotiable. Birla’s words must translate into action, or they risk being just another soundbite.
J&K and Human Stories
In Jammu & Kashmir, the top court has asked the Ministry of Home Affairs to facilitate the return of a deported Pakistani spouse of a Kashmiri resident, as per The Asian Age. This case tugs at the heartstrings, highlighting the human cost of geopolitical tensions. The court’s intervention signals a push for compassion, but navigating the MHA’s security concerns won’t be easy. It’s a reminder that behind every policy are real people caught in the crossfire.
Political Shuffles and Regional Tensions
Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann hinted at a Cabinet expansion, with Sunil Arora’s induction expected soon The Times of India. This move could strengthen AAP’s grip in the state, but it’s anyone’s guess how it’ll play out with voters. Meanwhile, West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee stirred the pot, alleging that 300 Bengal migrants were detained in Rajasthan as “Bangladeshis” The Economic Times. Her claims, laced with political undertones, highlight the sensitive issue of migration and identity. Mamata’s knack for turning local grievances into national debates is unmatched, but it risks escalating tensions with the Centre.
Global Ambitions and Local Setbacks
On the international stage, India’s making waves. The India-UK trade pact is inching closer, with a deal likely by July-end The Times of India. This could be a game-changer for Indian exporters, but the devil’s in the details—legal scrubbing is no small task. India’s also eyeing a coastal development partnership with Egypt Amwal Al Ghad, signaling its growing influence in the Global South. Closer to home, The Hindu reported that Hooghly CSL will build two luxury cruise vessels, a boost for India’s maritime ambitions. But not all is rosy—tourists were attacked in Amritsar The Times of India, denting Punjab’s tourism push. And a 4.6-magnitude earthquake near Port Blair Volcano Discovery serves as a reminder of India’s vulnerability to natural disasters.
From Spies to Space
The story of Noshir Gowadia, an Indian-origin engineer behind the B-2 bomber’s design now convicted as a spy, has sparked intrigue The Financial Express. It’s a stark reminder of the fine line between brilliance and betrayal. On a brighter note, India’s space ambitions are soaring, with Poland and Hungary joining an ISS mission MailOnline. This marks a proud moment for India’s space diplomacy. Back home, a new award honoring a Chennai-based psychiatrist The Hindu underscores the growing focus on mental health, while the approval of a single-point command for the armed forces via CDS and DMA Firstpost strengthens India’s defense framework.
Climate and Congress Rumors
India’s leadership in climate finance, cornering developed nations for accountability Indian Express, shows it’s not shying away from global responsibilities. Meanwhile, Shashi Tharoor put an end to rumors about joining the BJP Hindustan Times, reaffirming his Congress loyalty. Tharoor’s clarity is a relief for Congress, but the speculation itself reflects the party’s internal churn.
The Big Picture
This week’s news paints a picture of a nation in flux—balancing ambition with accountability, global strides with local challenges. From the Air India tragedy to political sparring, India’s grappling with its growing pains. The government’s ability to address safety lapses, deliver on economic promises, and manage regional tensions will shape the narrative going forward. For now, India remains a land of contrasts—resilient, chaotic, and ever-evolving. Stay tuned, because if there’s one thing certain, it’s that the news cycle never sleeps.

THE GUJARAT WRAP-UP

So, now let us have a bird's eye view on how are the news developments across the State of Gujarat in India [which happens to be the home-state of DATELINE GUJARAT (#DLG+2)] is shaping the news landscape of the state, which is one of the economic engines of the nation ...

Gujarat Grapples with Challenges and Opportunities: A News Roundup
Gujarat has been in the spotlight for a mix of triumphs, trials, and transformations. From political shifts to natural calamities and economic strides, the state is navigating a complex landscape. Here’s a commentary on the recent developments shaping Gujarat’s narrative.
The political scene in Gujarat is buzzing with activity, particularly after the recent bypoll results. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has emerged as a significant player, clinching the Visavadar seat with Gopal Italia defeating BJP’s Kirit Patel by over 17,000 votes, as reported by The Hindu. AAP’s success in both Gujarat and Punjab has prompted Arvind Kejriwal to call it a “semi-final” for the 2027 state polls, taking a jab at both BJP and Congress The Times of India. Italia, a former police constable, has become a poster boy for AAP’s growing influence, with party leaders like Isudan Gadhvi boldly predicting a defeat for BJP in 2027 The Times of India. Meanwhile, the Congress faced a setback, losing both seats in the bypolls, leading to the resignation of Gujarat Congress chief Shaktisinh Gohil Indian Express. Gohil’s exit, coupled with Congress’s appointment of Shailesh Parmar as interim in-charge and 40 new district and city unit chiefs Indian Express, signals a desperate attempt to regroup. However, AAP’s call for Congress workers to join them NDTV.com underscores the shifting loyalties in Gujarat’s political arena.
On the administrative front, Gujarat University’s decision to ease admission rules amid chaos in the Gujarat Common Admission Services (Gcas) portal reflects the state’s struggle to streamline education processes The Times of India. The move aims to alleviate student woes but highlights systemic inefficiencies that need urgent attention.
Nature has not been kind to Gujarat either. Surat is reeling from its heaviest rainfall, with streets submerged and a teen reported missing The Telegraph, Calcutta. Congress leader Supriya Shrinate didn’t miss the chance to slam BJP’s much-touted “Gujarat model,” pointing to the chaos with a quip about “boats sailing and cars floating” The Times of India. The monsoon’s fury also triggered a landslide in Banaskantha, blocking roads, while 147 talukas faced heavy rain with an orange alert till June 26 Indian Express. These incidents expose gaps in urban planning and disaster preparedness, demanding a rethink of infrastructure priorities.
Economically, Gujarat is making bold moves. Omnitech Engineering’s filing for a ₹850 crore IPO Mint and Acme Solar’s expansion with 300 MW in Rajasthan and 50 MW in Gujarat The Times of India signal a robust push towards clean energy and industrial growth. Smaller solar module manufacturers are eyeing indigenous Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) manufacturing, a step towards self-reliance in renewables The Hindu Business Line. Adani’s commissioning of India’s first off-grid 5 MW green hydrogen plant in Kutch The Economic Times further cements Gujarat’s position as a clean energy hub. Additionally, the Gujarat Electronics Component Manufacturing Policy-2025, targeting ₹35,000 crore in investments, offers substantial aid for research and excellence centres The Hindu Business Line. However, not all is rosy—Gujarat Credit Corporation reported a net loss of ₹0.24 crore for the March 2025 quarter The Business Standard, and a multi-crore Ponzi scheme has led to Enforcement Directorate raids across Maharashtra and Gujarat Hindustan Times.
On the social front, the Gujarat High Court’s directive to ensure a Muslim trader’s access to his shop in a Hindu-dominated area The Times of India highlights the state’s ongoing struggle with communal harmony. Meanwhile, a bizarre case of a robotics engineer sending 21 hoax bomb threats to frame a man she loved NDTV.com adds a quirky, if unsettling, twist to Gujarat’s news cycle.
Education and infrastructure also grabbed headlines. An AI-based Early Warning System identified 1.68 lakh students at risk of dropping out from Gujarat’s primary schools, a proactive step to address educational challenges The Hindu Business Line. On the connectivity front, the completion of an 80m bridge over the Darotha River for the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train project The Financial Express and Kandla Port’s efforts to ease vessel congestion for steady edible oil supply The Economic Times showcase Gujarat’s infrastructure ambitions. The state, alongside Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra, is set to drive 50% of India’s ₹10.2 trillion capex push in FY26 The Business Standard.

As Gujarat marks 50 years since the Emergency, with Congress accusing the government of diverting attention from its failures Indian Express, the state stands at a crossroads. The bypoll victories signal AAP’s rise, but BJP’s retention of the Kadi seat The Hindu shows it’s not out of the game. With natural challenges, economic opportunities, and social issues in play, Gujarat’s journey is one of resilience and reinvention. The question is whether its leaders can balance ambition with accountability to deliver on the promise of progress.

THE WEATHER WRAP-UP

Last, but not least and as important as food, water, clothing and internet the four basic human needs are, is weather, so let us take a look at what are the weather cocks indicating and scan the important headlines across the world in weather space ...

Global Heatwaves and Extreme Weather: A Wake-Up Call for Climate Action
The world is reeling under a relentless onslaught of extreme weather, with heatwaves, storms, and heavy rains making headlines across continents. From the UK to North America, Australia to China, and even our own Mumbai, the planet is serving up a stark reminder of climate change’s growing grip. Let’s unpack the chaos and what it means for us.
In the UK, a 30C heatwave is set to scorch 31 counties in England, with temperatures peaking this Friday. The British, not exactly known for tropical vibes, are bracing for a sweaty spell. Meanwhile, across the pond, New York City has hit a blistering 100 degrees, with the entire Eastern U.S. baking under an extreme heatwave, as reported by both HuffPost and PBS Online. The BBC notes that millions across North America are sweltering, with no immediate relief in sight. Closer to home, Mumbai’s heavy rains have wreaked havoc, injuring a senior citizen and two minors in a wall collapse in Bhandup.
But it’s not just heat and rain. Down Under, Australia is gearing up for a ‘double whammy’ winter blast, with cold snaps set to chill millions. In China, South-West regions are underwater due to torrential rains, with more storms looming. And in Germany, Storm Ziros has left a trail of destruction, claiming one life and disrupting railway traffic.
Amid this global weather mayhem, there’s even advice for gardeners in the UK to water hydrangeas and roses at specific times to beat the heat. On a lighter note, Duchess Sophie was spotted braving the UK heatwave in a chic sundress, proving style can survive a sizzler.
The Bigger Picture
These events aren’t just random weather quirks; they’re a loud alarm bell. Heatwaves are becoming more frequent and intense, rains more destructive, and storms more unpredictable. For us in India, Mumbai’s recent deluge is a grim reminder of our own vulnerabilities. Urban flooding, collapsing infrastructure, and heat stress are no longer distant threats—they’re here, now.
The science is clear: climate change is amplifying these extremes. Rising global temperatures are fuelling hotter summers and erratic monsoons. While the world debates carbon cuts, we’re left grappling with the consequences. Mumbai’s creaking infrastructure, for instance, can’t keep up with heavy rains, and the Bhandup incident is a tragic case in point.
What Can We Do?
It’s high time for action. Governments need to prioritise climate-resilient infrastructure—better drainage systems, stronger buildings, and urban planning that accounts for extreme weather. At a personal level, small steps like conserving water (take a cue from those UK gardening tips!) and reducing carbon footprints can add up. Community efforts, like Mumbai’s citizen-led clean-up drives, also show how collective action can make a difference.
The world’s weather is screaming for attention. From New York’s 100-degree days to Mumbai’s rain-soaked streets, the message is clear: adapt, mitigate, or pay the price. Let’s not wait for the next heatwave or flood to act.

Views expressed are personal and based on recent global weather reports.
